The Council of International Student Australia (CISA) is the national peak student representative organisation for international students studying at the postgraduate, undergraduate, private college, TAFE, ELICOS and foundation level.

History 🏛

CISA was inaugurated on Wednesday July 7, 2010 at the University of Tasmania, Hobart through the joint efforts of the National Union of Students (NUS), Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations (CAPA) and the Australian Federation of International Students (AFIS) to form a unified voice for all international students.

CISA aims to elevate the freedom to openly and freely advance our position on issues for the betterment all international students.

Currently, CISA represents 650,000 international students in 2022.

Vision & Mission 🔑

The Council of International Students Australia's is made up of Executives from states all over Australia, that are inspired by the international students they represent.

Australia is a country that has long been known for its commitment to international education and the benefits that come with it. International students bring a wealth of knowledge, diversity, and new perspectives to Australian institutions and communities. They contribute to the economy, culture, and social fabric of the country, and help to build strong global relationships.

International education promotes cultural exchange, fosters global citizenship, and contributes to the growth and development of individuals and societies. CISA is proud to support and advocate for international students in Australia, and will continue to do so in the future.

Executives and Volunteers within CISA are committed to students, our members, and the educational bodies that host our students. CISA strongly believes in what it does, and does so with passion.

Why CISA?

Purpose

At a national level, CISA lobbies the federal government, peak education sector bodies, and interacts with international education organisations in other countries.

The council of international students Australia sits on the council for international education as part of the department of education as an expert member. This enables the CISA to relay what we hear from students and out community directly to policy makers to insight change.

On a state level, the CISA Divisions lobby the education providers’ state and local government, interacting with campus-level student organisations. The executive team and volunteers actively engage with students on campus through events, networking and through their courses.

CISA is primarily made up of student volunteers, who alongside their study, work and often personal commitments ensure that they amplify the voices of their peers to improve the international education space.
